I’m Worried About A Resident Alien Theory Predicting A Major Season 4 Character Death
With Resident Alien season 4 confirmed and on the way, I’m very concerned that one of the cliffhangers from the end of Resident Alien season 3 will result in the death of one of the main characters. The figure I believe to be in peril has been a major part of the Resident Alien cast since the show began, so his loss would be a huge moment in the show’s overall story. They’ve also long been one of my favorite characters in the Alan Tudyk dramedy, so I’d be devastated if the theory of their coming demise is accurate.
While Resident Alien season 4 looked unlikely at one point, a network switch from SyFy to USA permitted the saga to continue. As a result, I’m thrilled the tense season 3 finale won’t remain unresolved. I’m certainly excited to see where the next run of episodes will take the residents of Patience, Colorado. However, an inevitability in the upcoming continuation of the plot means I’ll be on the edge of my seat when it comes to the safety of one character in particular.
Sheriff Mike Will Likely Find Out Harry Vanderspeigle Isn’t Human In Resident Alien Season 4
Mike’s encounter with the Greys brings him into the inner circle for the coming season
Resident Alien season 3, episode 8, “Homecoming,” left several characters in compelling positions that will undoubtedly make their coming arcs incredibly entertaining. Corey Reynolds’ Sheriff Mike Thompson had the biggest personal revelation when his staunch belief that extraterrestrials don’t exist was shaken to its core. Now that Mike has seen a Grey Alien with his own eyes, it would be pointless for him to refute the truth. The natural extension of this moment would be for Mike to join the fight against the alien antagonists. By doing so, he’s sure to be told about Harry Vanderspeigle’s true identity.

In fact, almost the entire main cast of Resident Alien season 4 will have their eyes opened to the existence of life from beyond the stars. So, I think anyone who doesn’t already know Harry’s secret is incredibly likely to find out in the coming episodes. That doesn’t just include Mike, but also other characters like Ben and Kate Hawthorne, and Liv. Leaving Mike out of the inner circle now that he knows about the Greys just wouldn’t make any sense. For him to be an effective part of the team, Mike needs to operate with all the available information.
Mike Won’t Let Harry Get Away With Murdering The Real Harry Vanderspeigle
Patience’s Sheriff can’t just let Harry’s crimes slide
It’s easy to forget that Alan Tudyk’s Resident Alien character began the show as the villain. Sure, he was never a truly terrifying bad guy because of the nature of the show, but his motivations and actions were very far removed from that of a traditional protagonist. When he arrived on Earth, one of Harry’s first acts was killing the real Harry Vanderspeigle, and it would be weird if this didn’t come up when Mike is told about Tudyk’s character being from space. As an able and committed law enforcement officer, I’d be very surprised if Mike let this slide.
Harry is essential to the fight against the Greys. So, although he’ll probably start Resident Alien season 3 as a prisoner aboard the Greys’ Star Wars-inspired moon base, when Harry inevitably makes his way back to Earth’s surface, facing off against Sheriff Mike due to what happened to the original Harry Vanderspeigle could mean things getting heated or even fatal. Without Harry, Earth is far more likely to fall to the Grey Aliens, and Harry knows that. Therefore, to save his friends, he may be forced to deal with the relentless sheriff in a way that is impossible to undo.

Harry’s species, which still hasn’t been named, is much stronger than humans. So, while there’s a possibility Mike could emerge victorious from a direct confrontation with Tudyk’s character, it’s far more likely that Harry would win. Additionally, it wouldn’t make much sense for the show to kill off its main character unless it was near the very end. While it’s unclear whether Resident Alien season 4 will end the saga, I doubt a fight between Mike and Harry would be deemed dramatic enough to be the show’s final act.
Harry Reminded The Audience About His Love Of Violence In Resident Alien Season 3
Bridget’s killing spree in “Homecoming” was championed by Harry
Although Harry has transitioned into being a slightly more conventional protagonist, there are moments in the show that prove he’s still willing to resort to violence. In fact, he relishes these instances. When he and the others are escaping the Greys’ ship in “Homecoming,” Harry lets Bridget loose on a group of the insidious extraterrestrials and is made visibly gleeful by the offscreen slaughter. Harry even joins in with his child as they kill the aliens in their path.
Even in the immediate wake of the skirmish, Harry is amused and even impressed by his offspring’s bloodlust.
Even in the immediate wake of the skirmish, Harry is amused and even impressed by his offspring’s bloodlust. Mike isn’t a particularly violent man, and while he has a standoffish attitude at times, I find it tough to imagine him really committing to killing Harry. Inversely, Harry’s origin as a ruthless killer gives him a massive edge in a potential conflict with the sheriff of Patience.
How Harry Can Avoid A Confrontation With Mike In Resident Alien Season 4
Harry doesn’t need to tell the whole truth about his origin
If a fight between Harry and Mike can be avoided, then I hope all steps are taken to do so. Interestingly, there’s an easy way Harry himself can prevent facing off with Mike while still telling him about his alien nature. Harry can reveal his true origin to Mike in the interest of honesty, but then withhold the fact he killed the real Harry Vanderspeigle. Instead, Tudyk’s character can tell a white lie to Mike, suggesting there was never a human Harry, and that the only Harry that has ever existed has always been the show’s main character.
Mike could survive learning about Harry being an alien in another scenario. After learning Harry’s secret while Tudyk’s character is still imprisoned, Mike could head to Harry’s cabin, fighting and killing the Mantid – who was revealed to have taken Harry’s form at the end of season 3. After learning of Harry’s importance to Earth’s survival, Mike could then be filled with remorse. When Harry escapes the Greys’ ship, Mike still won’t forgive him for the murder of the human Harry, but they’ll be able to shelve the feud for the good of a potential victory in Resident Alien season 4.
