I Really Need Stranger Things Season 5 To Not Forget About This Underrated Character & Eleven Ally

As the wait for Stranger Things season 5 continues, I hope that it brings back one of the show’s most underrated characters and one of Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) most important allies. Stranger Things quickly became one of Netflix’s biggest titles after its release in 2016, and it has since maintained its popularity through three seasons. The ending of Stranger Things season 4 left a lot of questions and loose ends that the fifth and final season will have to solve and address, while, at the same time, bringing all the characters’ stories to a hopefully satisfying end.

At the end of Stranger Things season 4, Max (Sadie Sink) was left in a coma after her encounter with Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), which also set his plan into motion. An earthquake opened cracks across Hawkins, allowing the Upside Down to bleed into the human world, and it’s now up to Eleven and the rest to find a way to stop it and save Hawkins. Stranger Things season 5 is bringing the show’s main characters back, but I need it to bring back a supporting but very important and underrated character whose fate was left ambiguous in season 4.

Dr. Owens Is One Of Stranger Things Most Underrated (& Valuable) Characters

Dr. Sam Owens Has Done A Lot For The Hawkins Crew

The character I need to see again in Stranger Things season 5 is Dr. Sam Owens (Sam Reiser). Dr. Owens was introduced in Stranger Things season 2, and he was a high-ranking member of the US Department of Energy, the organization that ran Hawkins Lab during the events of the first seasons. Owens was tasked with containing the mysterious events that took place in Hawkins with Eleven’s escape and the Demogorgon’s arrival, and replaced Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine) after his apparent death at the end of Stranger Things season 1.

Since Stranger Things season 2, Owens has shown that, despite working for Hawkins Lab, he doesn’t share the ideas of his predecessors.

Owens was appointed the Director of Operations at Hawkins Lab, investigating and overseeing the management of the Mothergate (the one located in the underground area of Hawkins Lab). As such, he also attended Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) when his unintentional bond with the Mind Flayer started messing with his health. Since Stranger Things season 2, Owens has shown that, despite working for Hawkins Lab, he doesn’t share the ideas of his predecessors, and shared his desire to stop all the damage they started.

At the end of Stranger Things season 2, Owen helped Eleven and Hopper (David Harbour) and gave the latter the papers needed for Eleven to live a normal life as Hopper’s daughter, under the identity of “Jane Hopper.” As Hawkins Lab was shut down thanks to Nancy, Jonathan, and Murray’s journalistic investigation, Owens started working for the United States Military, making a surprise appearance in the season 3 finale, when he arrived (a bit too late) at Starcourt Mall with the U.S. military. Owens was last seen in Stranger Things season 4, where he helped Eleven regain her powers.

Owens is one of Eleven’s most powerful allies in the sense of the connections he has within the U.S. military and the knowledge he has of everything that happened at Hawkins Lab.

The high-ranking people of Hawkins Lab, such as Connie Frazier and Dr. Brenner, have been on the villains’ side since season 1, so Dr. Owens arrived as a breath of fresh air. Owens is one of Eleven’s most powerful allies in the sense of the connections he has within the U.S. military and the knowledge he has of everything that happened at Hawkins Lab. Unfortunately, Dr. Owens is also one of the most underrated characters in Stranger Things, often overlooked by fans of the show.

Did Dr. Owens Die In Stranger Things Season 4?

Dr. Owens’ Fate Was Left Unknown

Owens’ inability to stop the Russians in Stranger Things season 3 led to his firing from the military – however, he wasn’t unemployed for long. Along with Brenner, Owens established the Nina Project, a top-secret facility in the Nevada desert. In it, Brenner and Owens had all the equipment needed to help Eleven regain her powers, but unfortunately, Colonel Jack Sullivan (Sherman Augustus) was looking for Eleven with the purpose of neutralizing her. Meanwhile, Brenner and Owens argued when Eleven, learning that Max was in danger, wanted to return to Hawkins.

Brenner’s guards handcuffed Owens to a rail inside the Nina Project, while Brenner sedated Eleven. Sullivan launched his attack on the facility shortly after and found Owens, who asked him to spare Eleven. However, Sullivan still planned to get rid of her, so he left Owens and carried on. Shortly after, Eleven used her powers to crash Sullivan’s helicopter into the facility. Eleven saved Brenner, but he died of his wounds, and Owens wasn’t seen again.

Given that he’s the most valuable link to Hawkins Lab and Eleven that the U.S. military can have, it’s unlikely Sullivan left Owens to die inside the Nina Project. It’s highly likely that Sullivan’s people took Owens with them, though not in the helicopter that crashed into the facility. Sullivan surely has many questions for Owens, but he might go to extremes to get information from him.

Why Dr. Owens Should Return In Stranger Things Season 5

Dr. Owens Can Be Very Useful In Stranger Things Season 5

Owens is also the only one who remembers Henry Creel before his banishing to the Upside Down, which can also be of great help to the Hawkins crew.

With Dr. Brenner dead (truly dead this time), Owens is the only link Eleven and the rest have to Hawkins Lab, and as such, he’s the only one with the knowledge of everything they did there. Owens is also the only one who remembers Henry Creel before his banishing to the Upside Down, which can also be of great help to the Hawkins crew. However, I’m not sure Dr. Owens would survive Stranger Things’ final season, as he already had two death fakeouts, but I don’t lose hope of him returning for season 5 and surviving it.
