“I Don’t Wish These Movies Ill Will” – Deadline

Neve Campbell is sharing her thoughts on the current Scream franchise and opening up about Scream VI and the Scream V storyline that left her disappointed.

During an appearance at Monster-Mania Con earlier this month, Campbell talked about Scream VI, the film she walked away from after not coming to terms over her pay.

“I watched it until two weeks ago. It took me a minute, I don’t know why,” Campbell told the crowd in attendance of her panel. “I actually thought they did a really good job. I think the cast are really powerful, wonderful actors.”

She continued, “I don’t wish these movies ill will. I wanted the movie to be good. It’s not like I’m sitting in my house going, ‘I hope it sucks, I hope it doesn’t do well.’ I care about all the people involved.”

Campbell went on to call out the executives saying “There’s someone at the top who only thinks about money and that’s their prerogative,” excluding the rest of the people involved in the film whom she really cares about.

Scream VI starred Courteney Cox, Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding and Hayden Panettiere.

Campbell also reflected on her experience filming Scream V and was left disappointed by David Arquette’s Dewey getting killed off.

“I was so sad about Dewey’s death,” she said. “I thought it was tragic and I don’t usually like to criticize the writing in these projects.”

She added, “I was really disappointed in their choice to get rid of David. Dewey’s such a wonderful character, and I think we were all in love with him and I think we all felt pretty sad about that. Which of course is the reason they do it, because it has more impact, but now I miss him. I want to see more of him.”

Scream VI moved forward without Campbell who was the face of the franchise. Now Scream VII will have to move on without Barrera who was recently dropped from the film over social media posts about the Israel-Hamas conflict.
