Hundreds attended the Go 4 It: Healthy Homes Resource Fair
Detroit – We take it seriously at Local 4 our responsibility to provide you with the information you need to live your best life.
Our Go 4 It: Healthy Homes Resource Fair at Adams Butzel Complex in Detroit represents our commitment to you.
Will Jones spoke with Detroit resident Willeda Langford who was waiting in line at the fair Saturday afternoon.
“How did you hear about it?” Will asked.
On Channel 4,” she exclaimed.
June is Homeownership Month.
Many Detroiters have dreams of owning a home.
Others are struggling to maintain or stay in their homes.
“There is resources. But if people don’t know, where will they go,” Detroit resident Leslie Jackson explained.
Jackson is thankful he found where to go to get help and he wants others to be able to do the same.
“If you didn’t have access to the HOPE program, what would have happened to you?” Will asked.
I shudder to think about it,” Jackson responded.
The HOPE program provides exemption from current year property taxes.
Property tax help drew many to the housing resource fair.
Some came for home repair assistance.
“I came out because I need a new roof for my house,” Detroit resident Brenda Wesley said. “It’s leaking and it’s leaking all the way to my living room.”
My colleagues and I listened to many stories like the one Wesley shared with me.
We partnered with the city of Detroit, Wayne Metro, the Wayne County Treasurer’s Office and the Gilbert Family Foundation to help Detroiters access resources.
“Just from the response of this event, we need to plan more of these,” Detroit Deputy CFO and Assessor Alvin Horn said.
About 500 people attended the fair.
“I need so much help and I am glad that you all put it out for me to come,” Langford said.
