Human hip bone found in an open field in Macon

MACON, Ga. — A singular human bone was found in an open field off Hawaiian Village Drive on Thursday, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

That is not far from Eisenhower Parkway and Middle Georgia State.

The sheriff’s office says a citizen reportedly found the hip bone while walking through the large vacant field. They say he picked up the bone and took it home with him, but later returned to the field to show deputies where the bone was found.

They say deputies responded to the field just before 2 p.m.

After a search of the field, the sheriff’s office was unable to find any additional bones, the press release said.

They say they don’t believe it is connected to any active missing persons cases because the bone “has been there for some time,” the release said.

Now, they say the bone is heading off to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Crime Lab to be examined in hopes that they could identify the person.

If you have any information, you are asked to call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 or the Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
