How To Solve The Clock Puzzle In Alone In The Dark (Chapter 2)

Alone in the Dark has many puzzles for you to solve, including one in the Gallery of Derceto in Chapter 2 where you have to reassemble the plate pieces of a Clock. Arranging the broken parts of this Clock will unlock a new area to explore, allowing you to progress further. This task demands the right equipment, which can only be found by completing other puzzles along the way.

The Astronomical Clock in the Gallery is connected to a special Talisman that connects to the survival horror setting of Alone in the Dark. Three numbers must be correctly inputted into this Talisman to unlock a new area in Derceto for you to explore more. The solution to the Clock’s puzzle will reveal the numbers of the Talisman once you put the missing pieces from the object’s plate back together.

There are multiple Talisman puzzles throughout Chatper 2 of the game, so remember the steps you take for the Clock puzzle to use for other obstacles you may run into later.

Where To Find The First Missing Clock Piece

There are two missing Clock parts, with one being located in the locked Garden area on the first floor. The Garden with the plate piece cannot be accessed until you find a pair of Bolt Cutters that can break the lock leading into the area. Go to the Small Parlor and interact with the chain lock on the door to trigger a scene where the room begins to flood, but the Bolt Cutters also appear on a desk nearby.

Cut the chain using the Bolt Cutters in the Small Parlor when the room starts to flood to reverse the effects of the rising water and turn the room back to normal.

Collecting the Bolt Cutters will allow you to unlock a shed containing a Water Hose in one section of the Garden. Connect the Hose to another tube in the corner of the room, where a deep hole can also be found in Alone in the Dark. Similar to the best puzzle games to play, everything you put together is a step to a clear answer, so turn on the water to the hose to see the hole fill up and cause the missing piece to float up.

Where To Find The Second Missing Clock Piece

The second missing clock piece can be found on the second floor in Perosi’s Room not too far from the Gallery with the Astronomical Clock. Before you can enter this room, you need to collect Room Key #6, which can be found on a table in the Clerk’s Office back on the first floor. Inside Perosi’s Room is a lockbox containing the part you’re looking for, but you need to figure out the safe’s combination to open it.

Some clues will help you open the lockbox, including a journal depicting several astrology symbols and numbers associated with them. The combination for the lockbox is made up of astrology icons, meaning you have to determine the order of symbols based on their associated numbers. Out of all the changes to this Alone in the Dark reimagining, this puzzle within a puzzle feels very close to the original game.

If you are having trouble determining what the astrology symbols mean, look for the number
“1”
above the symbol for Aquarius. Follow that number clockwise when counting other astrology icons, a fact given to you as a clue with Scorpio labeled as
“10”
and Sagitarius labeled as
“11”
on the wheel.

Close to the lockbox are several paintings, with each having a corrupted pattern on the back that you can flip over to form a distinct pattern. Three of these paintings have names corresponding to people on a crew mentioned through one of the other works of art in the room. Analyzing the art with the crew list will help you identify the second, ninth, and fourth members of the crew in Alone in the Dark.

These crew placements can be translated into the numbers 2, 4, and 9 for the right astrology symbols to be used on the lockbox. Arrange the lock for the Pisces, Libra, and Taurus icons from the journal to solve this mini-puzzle and collect the final missing Clock piece. When you have everything you need, return to the Gallery and the Astronomical Clock to finish the last part of this intricate puzzle.

How To Arrange The Clock Puzzle In Alone in the Dark

The plate for the Astronomical Clock can now be arranged to form golden lines connecting to a large orb located in between the centerpiece and the slab above it. Start from the center and work your way through the larger pieces first, assembling the Clock from its most dominant parts to its smallest. Rotate parts as needed to create the right image that makes a pattern joining every golden line.

Anyone struggling to find the right pattern should look in The Commonplace Book they may have picked up earlier for a clue. The fifth page of this tome has a drawn circle depicting this puzzle, along with solutions to other plate designs in Alone in the Dark‘s timeworn classic puzzles. The right design you want to follow is in the bottom left corner of this page, which showcases three other sketches you may need later.

Inspect the Clock once its plate has been fixed to see three different face circles of various sizes. From largest to smallest, identify which numbers each clock face’s hand is pointing to, then enter these numbers in that order on the Talisman.
