How To Pronounce Barry Keoghan’s Name
Barry Keoghan has officially confirmed how to pronounce his name correctly.
You’d think that with Google and YouTube, people would stop pronouncing celebrity names wrong, but here we are.
But, don’t worry. The Saltburn actor appeared more than happy to clear up the debate over his name. Talking to Variety at the Toronto International Film Festival about his new movie Bird, Barry clarified the right way to say it.
When the interviewer asked whether or not it was “Kee-oh-gan” or “Kee-gan,” the Banshees of Inisherin star quickly pointed out the right answer.
According to Barry, it’s “Kee-oh-gan,” y’all.
“Some people get it wrong; I mean, even Irish people get it wrong.” Barry said, explaining that K-E-O-G-H is typically pronounced “Key-oh,” so once the “A-N” is added, it’s considered “Kee-own.”
It appears that Barry’s family pronounces the letter “G” in their surname.
Next time you’re at a dinner table and everyone is arguing over whether or not Anya Taylor-Joy’s name is pronounced “Anne-ya” or “Aun-ya” (it’s the first one, btw) — you can surprise them with your Barry Keoghan surname knowledge.
