Nothing makes a person more territorial than when an ex comes waltzing back into their partner’s life. In High Potential’s case, it’s Karadec’s ex-partner, but maybe not in the way you think.
The next episode seems to be drawing a lot of attention to workplace partnerships, specifically those tied to Karadec.
From what’s seen in the promo, the series wouldn’t be nearly as fun without the dynamic duo Karadec and Morgan.
We gleaned from the High Potential Season 1 Episode 12 promo that Karadec’s former partner, Oliver, now an FBI agent, will be assisting the cops on a case. Que the cliched “Cops and Feds don’t mix” trope that many shows like to use.

It’s About Time High Potential Blew the Doors Open on Karadec’s Past
At the beginning of the promo, Karadec tells Morgan, “This is FBI Special Agent Oliver … He used to be my partner.” From the quick clips of the episode, it’s clear this is not going to be a brief plot point, and it will likely open the door to Karadec’s past.
Suffice it to say Detective Adam Karadec remains a mystery for the most part. Throughout High Potential Season 1, all we’ve learned of that tall drink of water is that he works out, likes whiskey and baseball, and has a thing about germs.
He also seems to be a bit of a lady’s man, but there hasn’t been much development on that front either. So, hopefully, “Partners” will finally get the ball moving on the detective’s past. Does the man even have a family?
Then again, we might only get a view into Karadec’s work history with Oliver as Morgan (Kaitlin Olson) can be heard saying, “You guys have butted heads before.”
So, it’s probably best not to get our hopes up. At least we’re getting a Karadec-centric episode, and those are always welcomed.
Especially since the ex-partner, Oliver, seems like a carbon copy of Karadec.
High Potential Brings in Jocko Sims and His Years of Television Experience Over to Morgan’s Wonderful World of Crime Busting
When you watch the promo, you might wonder if the same writer who created Karadec also wrote Oliver. In the short thirty seconds, they are seen, both characters are pretty interchangeable.
It’s times like these that make me truly appreciate Morgan’s energy and ability to lighten up any heavy situation or episode. Remember how she brightened up Karadec’s awkward date in High Potential Season 1 Episode 5? Good times.
As for the actor playing Oliver in “Partners,” that would be none other than Jocko Sims himself. You’re probably more familiar with the actor than you even realize, as he has been in the industry for over twenty years.
He’s known for his longstanding roles on shows like New Amsterdam, Crash, and The Last Ship as well as numerous guest-starring roles on The Resident, MacGyver, and Castle.
The man has made his TV rounds, especially in procedurals, so hopefully, he’ll bring all that experience to the character of Oliver, but an actor is only as good as the material they have to work with.
Do not worry, though, because High Potential has proven that it can craft a perfectly executed episode in its sleep. Seriously, there has yet to be a bad episode or one that feels like a filler in Season 1.
Despite Some Rather Convenient Plotting, “Partners” Is Still Shaping Up To Be Yet Another Amazing Episode From High Potential
The official synopses for High Potential Season 1 Episode 12 reads, “The FBI joins the investigation into the murder of a controversial tech magnate, forcing Karadec to reunite with his former partner.
“Meanwhile, Ludo becomes overwhelmed with his increasing childcare duties.”
Not for nothing, but this is the first time we’ve seen the team working with the FBI, and it just happens to be with Karadec’s (Daniel Sunjata) old partner. Does no one that particularly convenient? I’m just saying.
Don’t worry, though, because I’ll save poking holes in the plot for the review. We need to talk about FBI agent Morgan’s copping attitude within the promo.
Personally, I love it when Morgan gets all sassy with her quick comebacks. How hilarious was it when she put that lawyer in his place in High Potential Season 1 Episode 6? She shut him down so damn quickly after his condescending remarks to her and Karadec.
Now, Miss Gillory is squaring off with a federal agent. In the promo, Morgan says, “It is possible the killer is a shut-in who dislikes technology,” to which the agent replies, “You think my profile is off.”
And like the quick-witted genius that she is, Morgan responds, “Didn’t I just explain that?” I don’t understand how this character could ever rub people the wrong way, considering how much fun her sarcasm is.
It looks like Morgan has everything squared away at work, which is good because it sounds like her home life desperately needs her help.
Whatever Ludo Has to Deal with Better Be More Than Any One Paid Parent Can Handle
At the end of the synopses for High Potential Season 1 Episode 12, it’s mentioned that Ludo is overwhelmed with his childcare duties. Does anyone else see the glaring issue with that description?
Well, for one thing, it isn’t childcare when it’s Ludo’s children. The correct term is parenting. Especially when the two youngest kids, who need the most care, are his biological children.
On top of that, Morgan worked out a sweet deal with Captain Selena (Judy Reyes) where childcare was part of her agreement to work with the cops. That means Ludo gets paid to watch his own kids.
All I have to say is that whatever is “overwhelming” him better be more than anyone paid parent can handle.
I’ve learned not to have expectations when it comes to High Potential because the series always exceeds them. However, there’s a good chance that the Ludo (Taran Killam) part of the episode will be the lighter and more comedic side of the storytelling.
Either way, there is not a doubt in my mind that this will be yet another perfectly crafted episode full of clues no one can keep track of and fun facts from Morgan’s mind that no normal person could retain.
Also, if “Partners” does dip into more of Karadec’s past than just his work history, can we get an answer as to why this very eligible bachelor hasn’t been locked down? I mean, just look at him.
