Hardwell Harkens Back to Big Room House Heyday With New Track, "Oldskool Sound"

Hardwell’s new single is the closest thing we’re probably ever going to get to a time machine back to 2014.

Since his blockbuster return from hiatus at the 2022 Ultra Music Festival, the mainstage techno titan has been touring his groundbreaking new sound for nearly two years. However, his latest offering “Oldskool Sound” is a blast from the past that harkens back to his big room house heyday.

With thunderous big room kicks, stadium-filling synths and a rallying vocal sample, the track fits seamlessly into Hardwell’s early career catalogue. The euphoric tone stands in stark contrast to his most recent tracks, which have embraced a similarly high-energy sound while incorporating a distinctly ominous tone.

“Oldskool Sound” may not necessarily be an indicator of where Hardwell is headed next, but it’s a nostalgic tribute to one of the most beloved periods of dance music history. Though its arrival was unexpected, it’s certain to appeal to the Dutch dance music icon’s most dedicated fans, who’ve been with sticking with him now for well over a decade.
