The award of the night

It’s the category viewers wait hours to see announced: Album of the Year.

In a moving nod to the devastation of the Los Angeles wildfires, members of the city’s fire department took to the stage to unveil the winner.

With the likes of Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Beyonce, Charli XCX and Taylor Swift all up for the award, competition is fierce.

But there can only be one winner, and it’s…

Beyonce!!!!

It’s hard to believe, but the singer, who has a whopping 32 Grammys to her name, has never won Album of the Year.

Her country record Cowboy Carter has finally done it, and the singer was emotional as she brought daughter Blue Ivy on stage with her.

“I just feel very full and very honoured. It’s been many, many years,” she said on stage.

The Weeknd returns to the Grammys four years after ‘boycott’

Megastar the Weeknd has returned to the stage to perform at the 2025 Grammys four years after announcing he was boycotting the awards.

In 2021, he criticised the role anonymous expert committees played in deciding which songs, albums and artists win Grammys, calling the whole thing “corrupt”.

“Because of the secret committees,” the Weeknd told the New York Times, “I will no longer allow my label to submit my music to the Grammys.”

His comments came after his album After Hours received zero nominations, prompting him to tweet: “The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency.”

Now he’s returned to the Grammys after the Recording Academy, the people behind the awards, took several steps to improve the voting process and make it more equitable and transparent.

Lady Gaga’s subtle message to Trump administration

While accepting her Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga said five words that were clearly directed at the Trump administration.

As she closed out her speech, she said: “Trans people are not invisible.”

Cheers sounded out as she continued: “Trans people are not invisible. Music is love.”

The Shallow singer’s comments fly in the face of several anti-transgender executive orders signed by US President Donald Trump in the few short weeks since his inauguration.

Chappell Roan’s on-stage wardrobe malfunction

Chappell Roan won the Best New Artist award and took to the stage wearing her fourth outfit of the evening, a grey dress with a white princess hat.

As she accepted her trophy and tried to juggle it with her speech, which was written in a small journal, her headpiece began to tremble.

”My hat’s gonna fall,” she said mid-way through her speech, “And it’s gonna be – OK.”

As predicted, the Pink Pony Club singer’s tall pointed hat toppled off her head right there on stage.

Not one to be put out by a minor wardrobe malfunction, she continued with her speech after losing the hat and demanded that the music industry do better by its developing artists.

Benson Boone’s shocking costume change

He’s known for his breakout hit Beautiful Things but Benson Boone had fans talking for a whole different reason at the Grammys.

First he whipped a microphone out of his suit in the middle of the crowd to start singing the song, then he performed a shock costume change with the help of a few friends.

First the spotlight couldn’t focus on her, then the stairs fell into the floor, and finally her tearaway outfit didn’t tear away as intended.

That’s when the backup singers jokingly serenading, “Someone’s getting fired!”

Minutes later, Carpenter snagged the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album for her album Short n’ Sweet.

Carpenter’s medley came after a moving rendition of Birds of a Feather by Billie Eilish and FINNEAS, who performed on a grassy set meant to represent Los Angeles’ natural landscape.

Several stars were spotted dancing in the crowd as Eilish sang, including Chrissy Teigen, Taylor Swift and The Substance actress Margaret Qualley.

Tiny detail in Taylor’s outfit that had everyone talking

Taylor Swift looked ravishing as she arrived at the 2025 Grammys in this glittering ruby-red mini dress, which paired perfectly with her signature red pout.

The Fortnight singer paired the corsetted frock with dangling red earrings and strappy red pumps in what was an unexpectedly reserved look for the star.

But it was a tiny detail on her thigh that had fans obsessed.

Upon closer inspection, Swift appeared to be wearing a delicate jewelled garter on her left thigh which had a tiny charm hanging off it in the shape of the letter ‘T’.

It’s unclear exactly what the charm was a tribute to, but fans immediately started speculating on social media.

T for Taylor? T for Travis? T for Troy? (That last one is a reference to High School Musical, for those who aren’t stuck in the early 2010s like us).

Only time will tell if Swift will reveal the meaning behind it.

The red carpet arrival that had everyone speechless
