Gina Carano Reflects on Being Fired By Disney and Talks About Her Friendship with Pedro Pascal — GeekTyrant

Gina Carano recently opened up about what she went through after she was fired from the Star Wars franchise by Disney and Lucasfilm. She also talked about her relationship with The Mandalorian star, Pedro Pascal.

As you know, Carano is suing Disney over being fired, and during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Carano reflected on what it was like for her learning the news she was fired online like the rest of us did, and how she was shocked that Disney had called her out specifically.

“I just laid down and cried and cried. I curled into a fetal position. It’s not that I didn’t think that something like that could happen. It was that I couldn’t imagine they would put out this horrendous statement about me after working with me — the most powerful entertainment company in the world saying that about me.”

Disney’s statement read: “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Carano went on to talk about the various media training and efforts Disney asked her to go through following an instance where, after putting “beep/bop/beep” in her Twitter profile as pronouns. She got a lot of backlash for that and she previously explained:

“I was like, what is the least offensive thing you could ever do? And it’s like, that is the least offensive thing. And then and then like, you know if there was there’s just so many aggressive like trolls and bots and haters and probably a lot of a lot of misled young people who love to bully people.

“And so when somebody would say something bad to me I would just ‘beep boop’ at them because I feel like that was basically the cutest thing. You see all these other you know, a lot of my male co-stars would go aggressive at these people and say some stuff and I’m like, over here booping people. And I’m the one that gets fired?”

The actress also talked about how Pedro Pascal, who has a trans sister, talked to her about the trans movement, saying: “He was telling me, ‘Just put #transrights in your feed. Do it and they’ll leave you alone.” But, she didn’t do it “because that’s not my style, to put hashtag anything. I’m also not going to put #TrumpsRights.”

Carano called their relationship “close,” and shared that Pascal reached out following the recent passing of actor Carl Weathers. She said:

“Me and Pedro were so close. He knows 1,000 percent I’m not homophobic or transphobic. He texted me after Carl Weathers passed away. We had our conversation and it was beautiful. One thing he did say was, ‘Thank you. You and Carl Weathers have always been protectors.’ And he knows what that means, and I know what that means, and I wish I could tell why. We basically left it at ‘I can’t wait to give you a big hug.’ ”

I’m really curious to see how all of this plays out between Carano and Disney. It’s not easy going up against Disney, but she’s got Elon Musk backing her.
