Shōgun has accomplished a rare Rotten Tomatoes achievement. The upcoming FX historical drama is based on the 1975 James Clavell novel of the same name and follows political upheaval in 17th-century Japan after the English sailor John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis) is shipwrecked on the nation’s shores and becomes entangled in the lives of daimyo Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada​​​​​​​) and samurai Toda Mariko​​​​​​​ (Anna Sawai). This new version of the iconic story was co-created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks.

Rotten Tomatoes has calculated an official critic score for the new Shōgun show. Now that 17 different critics have weighed in, the title has earned a perfect 100% score. While its score could fluctuate as more reviews are added in the coming weeks, the project is showing Game of Thrones-level critical hype for an epic prestige drama.

Shogun

Shogun is an FX original mini-series set in 17th Century Japan. Shogun follows John Blackthorne, who becomes a samurai warrior but is unknowingly a pawn in Yoshii Toranaga’s plan to become Shogun.
