Frasier Episode 6 Pushes The Reboot Closer To Its Niles & Daphne Replacement (But It Shouldn’t Happen)

Warning! Spoilers ahead for the Frasier reboot episode 6.

Summary

  • The Frasier reboot is attempting to replicate the success of the original show’s romance between Daphne and Niles for a modern audience.
  • In episode 6 of the Frasier reboot, Frasier puts himself back out there in the dating world while also potentially developing a romantic plot similar to Niles and Daphne’s.
  • Freddy’s rejection on a blind date may turn him off from serious relationships, opening the door for him to spend more time with Eve and potentially creating a will-they/won’t-they dynamic like Niles and Daphne.

The Frasier reboot episode 6 inches closer to its new Niles and Daphne, but it’s best not to let it happen. Frasier and Martin’s story was arguably the original show’s greatest love story, but in the romance department, nothing could beat Daphne and Niles’ arc. Inspired by the success of Cheers‘ will-they/won’t-they dynamic of Sam and Diane, Frasier put a spin on it and arguably made it so much better. Given the success of the couple’s narrative, it shouldn’t be surprising that the Frasier reboot is trying to replicate it for the modern audience.

In the Frasier reboot episode 6, “Blind Date,” Frasier puts himself back out there. The radiotherapist-turned-Harvard lecturer’s dating life is a significant part of his arc in the original show. Over the years, he dated multiple women — most of them never really lasted beyond an episode, while others lingered for a serialized arc. As he starts his third and final arc in Boston, he is still on the lookout for his life partner after his tragic break-up with Charlotte. Aside from his love life, however, the Frasier reboot may also be developing another romantic plot that is more akin to Niles and Daphne’s arc.

Freddy’s Blind Date Failure Makes His & Eve’s Romance More Likely

While Frasier meets two women who are attracted to him in episode 6, Freddy finds himself in a desolate situation after he strikes out with the woman that Eve sets him up with — June. Apparently, despite her being his actual date, she secretly reveals that she likes Frasier more. Freddy takes the situation quite hard, even considering his father’s diagnosis of him as someone who has a “fear of emotional vulnerability.” He does set aside his feelings to help his father have a great evening, but it’s difficult to imagine that his ego isn’t bruised by the rejection.

This experience will likely turn Freddy off on getting serious with another woman, at least in the foreseeable future. Granted that he doesn’t have any issues picking girls up, transitioning into a committed relationship is a different scenario. This paves the way for him to spend more time with Eve, which will help in developing their feelings for each other — assuming that there’s a mutual attraction between them. As friends, however, getting together isn’t going to be straightforward, which could result in another will-they/won’t-they dynamic, like Niles and Daphne’s.

Why Freddy & Eve Shouldn’t Get Together In Frasier

Frasier reboot's Freddy and Eve

They may be the next Daphne and Niles, but Freddy and Even shouldn’t be together in the Frasier reboot. The circumstances surrounding their relationship are just too complicated for the show to pursue a romantic connection between them. Eve’s late boyfriend and the father of her child is Freddy’s firefighter friend. He took her in after her partner tragically died on duty. Given this, it will be difficult for the Paramount+ revival show to come up with an actual compelling romantic arc without it being overshadowed by their common ties to John’s father. So, it’s best to just keep them as friends.

The Frasier reboot airs new episodes every Thursday on Paramount+.
