Former Bond Girl Gemma Arterton on a Female 007
Former Bond girl Gemma Arterton, who appeared in Quantum of Solace, recently weighed in on the concept of a female taking over the role of James Bond.
She explained to The Times that it would “people would find it too outrageous. Sometimes you just have to respect the tradition.” She then added: “Isn’t a female James Bond like Mary Poppins being played by a man?”
Arterton played Strawberry Fields alongside Daniel Craig in the Bond film and went on to express her confusion with how the role has followed her career:
“I don’t regret doing a Bond film, but I am perplexed why it has followed me around. I was only in the film for five minutes.”
Arterton most recently starred opposite Ian McKellen in the film The Critic.
I don’t think we’ll ever see a female take on the role of James Bond, but I don’t see why the producers couldn’t do a spinoff set in the same universe that follows a female spy.
What do you think about all this?
