Fan preserves all Dragon Quest 7 DLC maps before 3DS servers shut down

In a race against time before the shutdown of 3DS and Wii U servers, one devoted Dragon Quest fan took it upon themselves to save a precious piece of gaming history: all 56 DLC maps for the 3DS remake of Dragon Quest VII. Known as ‘tablets’ in the game, these maps unlock additional content for players, but with the impending closure of the servers, access to this DLC was at risk of being lost forever. Enter Gronya, a passionate Dragon Quest enthusiast and content creator, who saw an opportunity to ensure that these beloved DLCs would remain accessible to fans even after the servers went dark.

Gronya’s mission was no small feat. To preserve the content, she needed to create a “clean” save file, a process that involved leveling up a specific character to level 50 and progressing to the third island in the game. This meticulous task took over 340 hours of dedication, a journey she documented in a YouTube video. Inspired by a thread from fellow Dragon Quest fan sackchief, and armed with guides from Ignasia and a speedrun video from Twitch user Highspirits, Gronya embarked on her quest to save the DLC. Recovering from a recent hospital stay, she poured her determination into this endeavor, knowing the importance of preserving these digital treasures for the gaming community.

“I felt like giving a little present back to the community,” Gronya shared, reflecting on her motivation for undertaking this monumental task. Now, thanks to Gronya’s efforts, fans of Dragon Quest VII can breathe a sigh of relief. She, along with another fan named DaniPhoPhani, has uploaded their clean save files for the PAL and US versions of the game, respectively. This means that players can continue to enjoy the full Dragon Quest VII experience, complete with all the DLC maps, long after the servers have gone offline.

In a gaming landscape where digital content can easily vanish without a trace, Gronya’s dedication stands as a testament to the power of preserving gaming history. Her selfless act ensures that future generations of Dragon Quest fans will have the opportunity to explore these DLC maps and immerse themselves in the world of Fragments of the Forgotten Past.
