At this point in his career, Stephen Graham Jones is practically a living horror legend. Everyone in the horror community is buzzing about his latest book, The Buffalo Hunter Hunter, which is out on March 18 from Saga Press.
The Buffalo Hunter Hunter is a historical horror novel set in the American West in 1912. The diary of a Lutheran priest recounts the story of a vampire who seeks revenge for the murder of his people. This novel introduces supernatural and spooky elements into true–and even more horrifying–events.

Lone Women by Victor LaValle — Like The Buffalo Hunter Hunter, Victor LaValle’s novel is set in the American West at around the same time (1915). Adelaide Henry travels with a mysterious trunk that she keeps closed at all times. Because when she opens it, people start to disappear.
The Reformatory by Tananarive Due — Set in Florida in the Jim Crow era, The Reformatory follows the story of Robert Stephens Jr., a 12-year-old boy who’s sent to a reformatory called Gracetown School for Boys where he experiences horrors both natural and supernatural.

The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas — This one is set after the events of the Mexican War of Independence. Beatriz’s father has been executed and everything she’d ever known taken away from her. So when the handsome Don Rodolfo Solórzano proposes to her, she ignores the rumors of his dark past and says yes. But when things seem too good to be true…
The Fervor by Alma Katsu — Alma Katsu is the queen of historical horror, and I would recommend any of her novels. But this one is my favorite! Set during World War II in 1944, Meiko Briggs and her daughter Aiko are stuck in a Japanese American internment camp where a strange disease is spreading.
The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson — The Year of the Witching is set in a puritanical settlement called Bethel. The rules of the community are strict, and Immanuelle Moore, as a biracial girl, is seen as an outsider among her own people. Immanuelle tries her best to fit in by following all the scriptures and doing whatever the Prophet says, but something in the forbidden Darkwood calls to her.
