Everything you spend on itch.io goes to devs on Nov. 29

Independent video game storefront itch.io recently announced its next Creator Day for Nov. 29, Engadget reports. As such, all of the money you spend there this Friday will go directly to the developers as itch.io forgoes its normal 10% cut.

This latest Creator Day also falls right in the middle of itch.io’s annual Autumn Sale, which runs from Nov. 27 to Dec. 5. The website’s massive dev community has contributed over 7,400 projects to the event, which apparently includes both digital and physical games as well as assets for making your own.

Creator Day was established by itch.io in 2021 as a way to support developers struggling to make ends meet at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re supported by our awesome community every day and we wanted to set a day where we could return the favor,” Spencer Hayes, itch.io’s director of business and content, told Polygon at the time. “It’s been hard out there for a lot of folks and we figured we’d help out how we can.”

Itch.io is already known for its generous revenue sharing — with only 10% of sales going to the store by default, the ratio is better for devs than on other platforms like Steam, the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, and Apple’s App Store — but events like Creator Day and the various charity drives organized on the site definitely go the extra mile in setting it apart from its more prolific competitors.
