Australians vying for world television’s highest honour

Hollywood is feeling the thunder from Down Under, with Australian actresses Naomi Watts and Elizabeth Debicki both fighting for statuettes at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Watts scored an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series nomination for her role as Babe Paley in Feud: Capote vs The Swans.

It will be a bittersweet night for the actress, whose on-screen husband Treat Williams has also been nominated posthumously for his portrayal of William S. Paley, the famed television executive, in the series.

Watts’ real life husband Billy Crudup also scored a nod, being nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role in Morning Wars.

Debicki, meanwhile, picked up an Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series nomination for her turn as Princess Diana in the final The Crown series.

Earlier this year, Debicki picked up a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award for the same role.

On January 15, 2024, however, the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards were held – four months after its usual date.
