Emily in Paris: French first lady Brigitte Macron stars as surprise guest in new season

France’s first lady, Brigitte Macron, makes a surprise cameo in the second half of Emily in Paris season four, which is released today.

Lily Collins, who plays Emily Cooper, the star of the Netflix series, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron was “a big fan of the show”.

The first lady invited her and series creator Darren Star to the Élysée Palace in December 2022 and shared her desire to appear on the show, Collins said.

“She was so kind and warm and welcoming and she was so enthusiastic about the show,” Collins said.

“Having her on set was so fun, she improv-ed, we had such a great time together … It was an honour to do that with her.”

The first lady plays herself in one of the new season’s episodes and poses for a selfie with Emily in a restaurant during her appearance.

It’s understood the appearance ties together a mention of Brigitte in season one, which the French first lady reportedly took with “great humour”.

But, it’s not the former drama teacher’s first time starring in a TV series.

The first lady made a brief appearance in 2018 in an episode of a French comedy series about two disabled swimmers, called Vestiaires.

The cast have spent time in Rome this week, ahead of the second half of the series being released, with some episodes set in the Italian capital.
