Eddie Murphy To Portray George Clinton In Biopic

Eddie Murphy will star in an as-yet-untitled biopic about the life of Parliament-Funkadelic legend George Clinton, which will re-team him with Dreamgirls director Bill Condon. The project is based on Clinton’s 2017 memoir, Brothas Be, Yo Like George, Ain’t That Funkin’ Kinda Hard On You?

According to reports, the film will be released by Amazon MGM Studios, with the script being penned by Virgil Williams from an original draft by Max Werner. Clinton and his manager, Jeff Jampol, are among the executive producers.

Murphy was previously nominated for the best supporting actor Oscar for his role in Dreamgirls and won the category at the Golden Globes. Meanwhile, Condon is in post-production on a new feature adaptation of the award-winning Broadway musical Kiss of the Spider Woman, starring Jennifer Lopez and Diego Luna.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Clinton, 83, said in 2018 that was planning to retire from performing, but he has continued to tour with Parliament-Funkadelic as recently as last month. He’ll also be on stage Nov. 14 in Newark, N.J., for a Tribute to Funk event alongside Bilal, Nona Hendryx, Christian McBride, Savion Glover and Living Colour’s Vernon Reid.
