Ebon Moss-Bachrach On That Emmy Kiss, ‘Fantastic Four’ Group Chat & ‘The Bear’ Season 3

When you’re an actor with a lot going on, and particularly if they are projects that everyone wants to know about, you have to be a bit cagey about what you reveal. Millions of dollars are at stake.

Thus, Ebon Moss-Bachrach had to be careful during his recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! But he did drop a few hints about what to expect.

Right now, he’s busy in Chicago filming season three of The Bear, the restaurant saga where he plays manager Richie. He kidded about what’s in store: “The restaurant works and it’s peaceful.”

One fan of the show is Steven Spielberg, Moss-Bacharach said, although a chance meeting with the director left him flummoxed, as a friend who was supposed to relay the praise message from Spielberg forgot to do so. His reason? He thought it better that Spielberg tell Moss-Bacharach directly, at which Moss-Bacharach scoffed at the notion that such a chance meeting was unlikely. “I don’t swim in these circles.”

Moss-Bacharach also made an impression at the Emmys, when he passionately kissed costar Matthew James Matheson, who plays the handyman Neil Fak on the FX series. He reported after a prompt from Kimmel that Matheson tastes “delicious,” not like hot dogs.

In his biggest reveal, Moss-Bacharach talked about his upcoming role in the next Fantastic Four movie, in which he’ll play Ben “The Thing” Grimm, the orange rock-encased powerhouse. He revealed that there’s already a group chat going between the main characters.

He also said that unlike past efforts at capturing a difficult character, there will be no suit. This time, it’s motion capture to create The Thing.

“In the past, I think they’ve done a suit. Michael Chiklis wore a suit that apparently was really uncomfortable, and it’s kind of… we’re past that,” Moss-Bachrach said. “It’s a little kind of cosplay, kind of amateur that kind of stuff now with the technology we have.”
