East Texas delegate speaks on attending first RNC event

TYLER, Texas (KETK)– An East Texas delegate is sharing his experience at his first Republican National Convention.

Tracy Vincent, a state delegate from Gregg County said the most memorable moment so far was when former President Donald Trump made his first public appearance after surviving his attempted assassination last weekend.

“To me, he was subdued a little bit and then he felt the electricity of the entire convention and he smiled, and he did his little dance,” Vincent said. “It’s his trademark. He became the Donald Trump that we know.”

Security was already a top priority at the event but since Trump’s attempted assassination, security has tighten up to a new level.

“The security has been really heavy, a lot of secret service around. I’m sure there’s others among us that are dressed as casuals to take care of us. We’ve had a few incidents but nothing that has caused us to delay or anything like that,” Vincent said.

Regardless what’s happening outside, inside the convention there is an overwhelming theme of coming together as one.

“They did a great job with uniting everybody and realizing there is no perfect human being on the face of this earth,” Vincent said.

Vincent said the highlight of day three of the RNC was a speech from Trump’s running mate J.D. Vance.

“There’s a lot of people that don’t understand and I think he’s going to bring his message that only he can bring,” Vincent said. “I think he’s going to make it very personal.”
