Dynamite Spotlight panel gives updates on ThunderCats, Space Ghost & more

Dynamite is finding a lot of success from their Warner Brothers licenses. With news of the recent expansion, the company decided to provide updates by doing a panel with the creators of their current hit comics adaptations including ThunderCats, Space Ghost, and Johnny Quest, along with talk with a special guest appearance by 30-year comics veteran Tom Sniegoski, who’ll be their newest writer working on his dream project adaptation, Herculoids

The spotlight panel will take place at SDCC on Friday July 26 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM PST in room 10 where Dynamite’s Executive Editor Joe Rybandt will lead a discussion with Declan Shalvey (ThunderCats), David Pepose (Space Ghost), Soo Lee (ThunderCats: Cheetara), and Joe Casey (Jonny Quest). The panel will also touch on the hit new The Powerpuff Girls title that launches right before the convention.

As to why this is happening, Dynamite’s success with Warner Bros. comics utterly shook things up in the industry. It really kicked things off with ThunderCats #1 by Declan Shalvey (Moon Knight, Alien) and artist Drew Moss (Gargoyles: Dark Ages) which ended up selling 170,000+ copies, becoming sort of the high watermark point of the company, as it’s now Dynamite’s best selling launch in its two decades of publishing. In fact, the ThunderCat’s return to comics has been so beloved that writer Soo Lee (Carmilla: The First Vampire) is now getting her own solo stories with Cheetara, the beloved lady Thundercat in a long-anticipated adaptation of 80s IP.

Though if that wasn’t enough in terms of WB IP adaptation hits, the high soaring success of Space Ghost, a modernized yet classics-revering approach to the superhero from super-fan David Pepose (Punisher, Savage Avengers) and longtime Dynamite heavy hitter artist Jonathan Lau (Green Hornet, Vampirella), has been getting nothing but a slew of positive reception in stores. With Joe Casey on the panel to discuss his run on Jonny Quest, which launches in August, there’s just a lot to follow for Dynamite and apparently, a LOT OF POTENTIAL in these underutilized Warner Brother’s Discover IPs which Dynamite has done a great job of adapting.
