Five young individuals from across the globe are chosen to wield Gaia’s elemental rings, becoming humanity’s final hope. Prepose and Casallos are bringing their experience together to bring this Captain plaent comic in over three decades. They’re starting off the story with an energized, yet faithful modernization of the franchise, in the same vein as Pepose’s approach to the smash-hit Space Ghost series.

Before these would-be eco-warriors can grasp their own newfound powers in pursuit of environmental justice, they’re first going to have to learn to trust each other. It will be even more of a trial by fire experience when Gaia is kidnapped, forcing the inexperienced Planeteers to learn in action against the well-financed might of Lucian Plunder. Pepose is taking an ambitious approach to adapting this beloved 1990s cartoon into a comic series of unprecedented scale and tone. The series is designed to resonate with longtime fans who grew up with the show and are now more attuned to the real-world issues that mirror the Planeteers’ challenges, as well as younger readers, including the next generation of fans. Pepose has shared his excitement about balancing the spotlight across all the main characters, giving each their own emotional arc, showcasing the power of Captain Planet, and reintroducing some of the show’s iconic villains.
The first issue is schedules to release April 23 in the same week as Earth Day! The comic will be printed on 70% recycled paper, as with all of the publishers periodicals.
For this landmark revival of the iconic franchise, Dynamite has brought together a diverse team of talented artists to create stunning covers for the series. The debut issue will showcase variants by superstar Mark Spears, celebrated for his Monsters series, alongside Christian Ward and Ben Oliver. Additionally, the first six issues will include a special set of connecting covers crafted by Jae Lee and June Chung.
Captain Planet #1 will be listed in Diamond Comic Distributors’ February 2025 Previews catalog, the leading resource for comic book specialty market merchandise, with its release scheduled for April 2025.
