We know that Avengers: Doomsday will feature several several supoerhero teams including The Avengers, The Thunderbolts, The Fantastic Four, and The X-Men, maybe even more!
Anyway, a new report from industry scooper @MyTimeToShineH shares deals on who will be leading The Thunderbolts and The Avengers. They claim that Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova will be leading one squad, while Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, a.k.a. Captain America, will command the other.
“Avengers Doomsday will have multiple Avengers teams trying to fight Doom, one is the Thunderbolts led by Yelena, the other is led by Sam.”
I mean, I guess this is just stating the obvious, but some fans have thought that Sebastian Stan could be leading the Thunderbolts. So, this basically clears that up.
The scooper also teased a bit about Sam Wilson’s team lineup, saying: “Sam’s group will have Shang-Chi [Simu Liu] and Ant-Man [Paul Rudd] in it,” they posted separately.
It’s possible that by the end of Thunderbolts*, the team could undergo a rebrand and step up as an official Avengers team, a move that would explain Yelena’s leadership role heading into Doomsday. It’s that whole asterisk thing in the title.
The Cosmic Circus, meanwhile, has shared an update on what comes after Avengers: Secret Wars, revealing, “[From] what we have heard, there will not be a break as the next Saga is already mapped out with plans in mind already for Phase 7 already taking shape and multiple storylines already in development.”
Mackie was recently asked about Sam Wilson facing off with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, saying: “That’s what I’m excited about. The one thing about Sam Wilson that I love so much is that he’s a regular guy. There’s no serum, there’s no add-ons so his reaction is literally the audience’s reaction.”
“So, I don’t know if he’s going to be excited, afraid, or confused but with The Russos- they’re so smart and they usually play things many different ways, I’m sure they’ll pick the one that works best.”
He also talked about the possibility of Samuel L. Jackson‘s Nick Fury reuniting with The Avengers, saying: “If you know anything about Sam, you can’t tell Sam where he’s going to be and what he’s going to be doing. Sam is going to tell you where he’s going to be and what he’s going to be doing. So, we’ll see; you never know…”
It’s going to be absolute chaos when all these heroes collide in a single film. We’ll see how it all plays out when Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on May 1, 2026.
