UNADILLA, Ga. — An inmate died on Thursday after an “altercation with another inmate,” according to a statement by the Georgia Department of Corrections.
In an email, they confirmed that Brian Wainwright died after the interaction with the inmate.
They said his body was turned over to the county coroner and was transported to the GBI crime lab to determine the official cause of death.
The case is still being investigated by the GDC’s Office of Professional Standards, so more details are not available yet.
Wainwright was serving a 5 year sentence out of Cobb County for Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer with a maximum release date of June 2024.
