DOCTOR APHRA returns in CHAOS AGENT

Marvel Comics have announced a new Star Wars series starring Doctor Aphra, titled Star Wars: Doctor Aphra — Chaos Agent. The ongoing, written by Cherish Chen (Radiant Red), and drawn by Gabriel Guzman (Star Wars: Dark Times), will follow the chaotic archaeologist after the events of Return of the Jedi, as she is pardoned for her crimes, and recruited by Luke Skywalker to use her skills for the good of the New Republic instead of herself.

Doctor Aphra makes her way through the galaxy in the era of the New Republic! The rogue archaeologist must team up with Luke Skywalker to track down a rare artifact! And what will she do when her tattoos no longer function?!

The book marks Chen’s first at Marvel, and Guzman’s first since the 2010 Cable run, as well as his first Star Wars comic since Marvel regained the rights. Chen states, “In my humble opinion, there isn’t a more fun character to be writing in the Star Wars galaxy than the one and only Doctor Aphra. Cooking up new adventures for her in this new era, throwing her into increasingly tricky moral quandaries, and testing her resolve (alongside some familiar faces) has truly been like playing in the ultimate sandbox. Our favorite chaos agent is back, and I cannot wait to share what we’ve been working on and for you all to see Gabriel’s incredibly dynamic art.”

Editor Mark Paniccia adds, “Aphra fans are gonna LOVE this unexpected new status quo, one that even our brilliant Doctor will struggle to navigate. Her patience will be tested, her wits will be challenged, and — say it isn’t so — her ego will get bruised! Who can outsmart the galaxy’s greatest grifter? Cherish will drop clues. See if you can solve the mystery!”

Chaos Agent #1 will be released on June 18, with a main cover by E.J. Su, plus variants by Sara Pichelli and Karen S. Darboe. In the meantime, the New Republic era of Marvel’s Star Wars comics will kick off with the relaunch of the main series by Alex Segura and Phil Noto on May 7; while Doctor Aphra herself will turn ten, with the tenth anniversary of her first appearance in Kieron Gillen and Salvador Larroca‘s Darth Vader #3 falling on March 25.
