Could the ongoing drama between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively have been avoided if he had never talked to her late father — or at least, told her about it? A source source is sharing new insight!
As you will recall, one of the most shocking claims the 37-year-old actress made in her lawsuit against Justin was that he told her on “several occasions” that he had spoken to her dead dad Ernie Lively after he passed away from cardiac complications in 2021. Mind you, he had never met her father! What?! Blake recalled one instance in the court documents, saying:
“On one occasion when he claimed to have spoken with Ms. Lively’s dead father (a person whom Mr. Baldoni had never met), Ms. Lively attempted to deflect the comment with humor, telling Mr. Baldoni: ‘let him know he owes me 40 bucks.’ Mr. Baldoni replied, ‘Wait, does he really?’”
Blake was surprised Justin continued with the conversation and tried to deflect with humor again, saying:
“‘Oh god no. He owes me so much more than that.’”

However, he did not stop. The lawsuit alleged:
“Mr. Baldoni then closed his eyes, put his hand on his heart, and said, ‘I was leaving my apartment this morning, and I reached into my pocket… and there was $40 in there, that I did not put there.’”
There are a few issues with this interaction. For starters, it turns out speaking to the dead is not encouraged in the Baha’i religion, which he is a committed follower of, yet just apparently does it all the time! Not only did Blake claim he often told her “he could speak to the dead,” but he has said it himself several times over the years!
Then, most importantly, the encounter “deeply disturbed” Blake she said as she couldn’t believe the 41-year-old actor would “claim a personal relationship with [Lively’s] recently deceased father.” Yeah, we totally get why she would be upset and bothered over this matter! It is not like she went to a medium. He was her colleague who supposedly did it without her consent. That is crossing a huge line.
What’s more? Justin seemingly hasn’t even apologized for the actions nor given much of a defense to these specific accusations from Blake — other than to claim that he only said he would “pray for her father,” per her suit. She is adamant that simply praying for him is not what happened here, though.
But was Justin admitting to Blake that he spoke to her dead father enough to have started an all-out legal battle? A new insider for Dailymail.com seems to think so! Why? Talking about Ernie is strictly off-limits to everyone for Blake, especially for someone not in her inner circle! Justin is obviously not one of those people! As the source said, Ernie is a very “touchy” topic for the Gossip Girl alum:
“Blake doesn’t like anyone to talk about her Dad. She will have found it very offensive for someone outside her circle to bring up his name even. It’s been a few years since he passed but he is a very, very touchy subject with her.”
Of course, Blake is not only claiming Justin disturbingly talked to her late dad in her lawsuit. There are also other serious matters, like the allegations he sexually harassed her and launched a smear campaign to destroy her reputation in retaliation for speaking up about the harassment. So, the talking to the dad stuff is definitely messed up, but only a fraction of this legal drama. But who knows! It could have been enough for her to take the gloves off and go to war with him!
