Eileen’s primary literary love is comic books, but she’s always on the lookout for her next literary adventure no matter what form it takes. She has a Bachelor’s in media studies, a Master’s in digital communication, a smattering of published short stories, and a seriously cute dog. Follow her on Bluesky.

Welcome to an all-DC and -Marvel edition of the Stack’s digest posts! There were just so many news items concerning the Big Two that I couldn’t help but devote the whole post to them.

News From DC

  • The mystery behind the shocking death of Gene Hackman, the award-winning actor who played Lex Luthor opposite Christopher Reeve’s Superman, and that of his wife and dog, appeared to have finally been solved at the time of writing.
  • DC Studios made several very important announcements about where their film and TV franchises are heading. Batman and related characters continue to dominate, unsurprisingly. My personal favorite announcements include the possibility of a Booster Gold TV series, a Blue Beetle animated series, and a film called Batman: The Brave and the Bold, which I am going to assume is based on the fantastic cartoon series of the same name until they disappoint me otherwise.
  • The sequel to Batman: Hush is being released this year, starting March 26th. While I’m sure that’s very exciting for fans of the story, DC’s decision to style the title as H2SH (huh-toosh???) reminds me of Fant4stic, which one assumes they do not want.
  • The first image from the upcoming Lanterns TV show is, eh…existent.
  • Colin Farrell won the SAG Award for Male Actor in a TV Movie or Limited Series for his performance in The Penguin.
  • Warner Bros. canceled its Wonder Woman video game as part of a larger effort to hoard as much wealth as possible by shelving perfectly good products and companies improve its product output.

News From Marvel

  • Still miss Marvel’s Netflix shows Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist? Maybe not for much longer.
  • Pedro Pascal continues living up to the name “Mister Fantastic” with his full-throated defense of trans rights. Nothing but respect for MY Reed Richards.
  • Marvel announced the end of its Marvel Insider program, which allowed subscribers to win points and trade them in for digital rewards. March 3rd was the last day you could accumulate points, and you have until May 27th to redeem those points before they get Thanos-snapped.
  • Daredevil: Born Again debuted on Disney+ on March 4th.

News From Both!

  • A whole lot of stuff happened at this year’s ComicsPRO Comic Industry Meeting, though the biggest headline was probably DC and Marvel’s announcement that they will be publishing their first official crossover comics in about 20 years.
  • Jack Kirby, one of the most (if not THE most) influential comics creators of all time, is the subject of an upcoming documentary called “Kirbyvision.”
