EXCLUSIVE: Dash Mihok (Long Bright River, Ray Donovan) has launched Sigmatic, a boutique virtual production and technology company, and has set a film adaptation of M. William Phelps’ bestselling true-crime novel The Devil’s Rooming House among its first projects. Sigmatic acquired the rights to The Devil’s Rooming House, which tells the chilling story of Amy Archer-Gilligan — one of America’s most infamous female serial killers, and Mihok will helm the project in his directorial debut.
Sigmatic combines traditional and virtual production, featuring the latest in Unreal Engine, extended reality (XR), real time rendering, motion capture and production workflows.
Xuan Seifert, whose work spans studios such as Sequin AR, The Mill, and Psyop, has been named Head of Production at Sigmatic, spearheading the company’s Virtual side. Seifort’s portfolio includes work for Star Wars, Macy’s, Viacom18, Mariah Carey, iHeart Radio and Meta.
“Xuan’s technical brilliance, experience and passion for uniting the traditional with the virtual production sector is essential to building a production pipeline that artists actually want to use,” said Mihok.
Mihok says his master plan never included the word “virtual” in it.
“I remember my first day on the set of I Am Legend playing the Alpha male opposite Will Smith. I had to put on a grey, full body haptic suit, covered in pink dots and thinking…What did I just get myself into?,” said Mihok.
“I have worked on every size and budget in the business,” he continued. “My goal is to build bridges to help creators get access to the latest technologies and solutions. We are all experiencing this new period of time in the entertainment business with budget concerns and the accelerating technology curve. It can be challenging but it is creating new opportunities. At Sigmatic, we aim to help creators connect with technology providers to speed development and production.”
Mihok, best known for his standout role as Bunchy Donovan for seven seasons on Ray Donovan and currently starring in Peacock’s Long Bright River, is a member of the Screen Actors Guild, the DGA and a recent inductee to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. He’ll be attending the Las Vegas NAB Show in April, meeting with technology partners, production vendors, and fellow creators to expand Sigmatic’s platform.
