D23 Brazil brings new CAPTAIN AMERICA trailer, and more

At Disney’s inaugural D23 Brazil event, Marvel Studios debuted the second trailer for Captain America: Brave New World, and an extended first look at Thunderbolts*.

The new Captain America trailer opens with Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) interrogating Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly) over his attempted assassination of the newly elected President Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford), attempting to unmask the conspiracy behind his brainwashing. We get our first dialogue from Shira Haas as Ruth Bat-Seraph, Giancarlo Esposito as Seth Voelker/Sidewinder, and Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/The Leader (whose appearance remains under wraps), as well as a closer look at Danny Ramirez‘s Joaquin Torres in action as the new Falcon. It concludes by revealing Ross’s transformation into the Red Hulk. Stylistically, the trailer distinguishes itself with a splitscreen approach, and a grittier typeface, heavily reminiscent of ’70s thriller films, for the captions, although whether these will carry over to the film remains to be seen.

The Thunderbolts* special look starts by giving us more of Sebastian Stan‘s Bucky rescuing/apprehending Yelena (Florence Pugh), Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Ava Starr/Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) in the desert. It reintroduces us to the entire line-up, including Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, and Lewis Pullman as the mysterious Bob, before ending on an indication as to why the film’s title has an asterisk: it seems Alexei is the only one enthusiastic about the team’s name, with the others deeming it inappropriate. Why? Perhaps it will have something to do with Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross’s transformation into a destructive monster, although like many other things, how exactly the two films will connect to each other remains to be seen.

Captain America: Brave New World will be released in theaters on February 14, and Thunderbolts* will follow on May 2. The crowd at Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 20th Century Studios’s presentation also got to see an exclusive trailer and poster for the third and final season of What If…? (premiering on Disney+ Sunday, December 22), which will go online tomorrow, Monday, November 11. Also screened at the event were footage from Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (premiering January 29), Daredevil: Born Again (March 4), and The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25), but details on when these will be released online were not provided.

In further news from the D23 presentation, Lucasfilm revealed Andor season two will premiere on Disney+ on April 22, 2025. The second and final season, which will have 12 episodes, will chronicle the four years Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) spent as a Rebel before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Not only that, but the series has been rebranded Andor: A Star Wars Story, bringing it in-line with the film it serves as a prequel to.
