From Girls Just Want To Have Fun to True Colors, Cyndi Lauper has amassed a catalogue of timeless hits over the decades. But now the star no longer owns the rights.
The singer, 70, has announced she sold the majority of her music catalogue to Swedish company Pophouse, which is led by former Universal Music Sweden chief Per Sundin.
“Pophouse has impressed me with their commitment to maintaining and developing my professional life’s work and ensuring its legacy,” the singer said in a statement via the Pophouse website.

“Their creativity and vision, combined with my continued involvement via our unique joint venture is what is most exciting to me,” she added.
“I can’t wait to participate in this new stage in my musical evolution and I could not be more pleased to know my music will now be in Pophouse’s safe hands as they build upon my legacy in the years to come.”
As part of the deal, Pophouse, which was co-founded by ABBA’s Bjorn Ulvaeus, will acquire a majority share of Lauper’s publishing and royalties.

While the deal included her classic recorded works such as All Through the Night and She Bop, the company noted her Broadway music is absent.
According to Pophouse, their deal with Lauper marks the company’s first venture with an American artist after acquiring the rights from artists Swedish House Mafia and Avicii.
In the company’s statement, they proclaim Pophouse will “create new content and experiences to enrich Cyndi Lauper’s catalogue for fans old and new.”

“Cyndi Lauper is an icon, with a career that has inspired generation after generation of music lovers,” Pophouse CEO Per Sundin said.
“That she has entrusted us to protect and continue to grow her legacy is a privilege we are proud to accept.”
Lauper’s music has spanned across four decades after she released her debut album She’s So Unusual in 1983, which earned her a Grammy Award for best new artist.
Her breakthrough track Girls Just Wanna Have Fun reached No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and helped launch her to superstardom in the ’80s.
More recently in 2023, the star toured Australia and New Zealand with music icon Rod Stewart .
