Fans of Curses have been forced to face the music, and for once it’s not a song they actually want to hear.
The American metalcore band has issued a statement confirming not only their drummer‘s departure from the West Virginia-based group, but also the fact they’re going on an “indefinite hiatus” altogether “due to an untenable situation brought about by personal conflict within the band”.
“Effective immediately, Tyrsson Demarest is no longer associated with Curses,” the band’s statement, shared to its Instagram and Facebook pages this week, began.

“We ask that everyone please respect our privacy regarding this matter,” the statement continued.
“That being said, due to an untenable situation brought about by personal conflict within the band, we have decided it’s best to put Curses on an indefinite hiatus.”
Curses said the group would be releasing a final song in the “coming weeks” before thanking fans for their support.

“We’d like to thank everyone for all the time spent, the moments shared, and the memories made together,” Curses’ statement continued.
“It really isn’t possible to fully express how much this has meant to us over the years. We will always cherish what you’ve given us. 🖤”.
Demarest, however, issued his own statement to his Instagram Story, denying his departure from Curses was by any fault of his own.

“As you all have seen, I am no longer associated with Curses, with no fault of my own,” Demarest’s statement began.
“As stated previously, please respect each individual’s privacy regarding the matter.
“Thank you to everyone involved over the last couple of years. I had a wonderful time filled with great memories.”

Demarest had been recruited by former bandmates – singer Eli Fry, bassist Michael Olivares and guitarist Davey Nicewander – in 2023.
His departure comes roughly seven months after that of vocalist Brandon Casto, who left the former five-piece in June 2024.
“After many incredible years together, we are announcing that Brandon will be parting ways with Curses,” the band wrote on social media at the time.

“Brandon has been an integral part of our journey, and his contributions have left an indelible mark on our music and our lives,” the statement continued.
“We will always be grateful for the passion, talent, and dedication he brought to the band. While Curses certainly won’t be the same without him, we wish him all the best on his future endeavours.”
The Never Ends musicians emphasised there was “no bad blood” between them and Casto, writing that the latter would “always have a special place in our hearts”.
