Crawford County teen on ATV injured after hitting sheriff cruiser

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Ga. — A 16-year-old boy on an ATV was injured after driving into a Crawford County Sheriff’s Office cruiser, according to a report from the Georgia State Patrol.

It happened on Tuesday at around 10:58 p.m. after the deputy attempted to pull the teen over near Union Church Road and Jackson Road, according to the crash report.

The cruiser turned on its emergency lights, pulled along the ATV in the oncoming lane and attempted to stop the teen, the report said.

However, they say the teen kept driving.

When the teen was attempting to turn left on 6336 Jackson Road, their ATV hit the cruiser in the right front bumper with the left side of the ATV, throwing the 16-year-old from the ATV and onto the pavement, the report says.

The ATV kept moving and came to rest not far from the crash. The ATV was totaled in the crash.

After the collision, the deputy pulled over and provided emergency aid to the teen, the report says.

In a press release, Crawford County Sheriff Larry Walker said that the teen is facing “non-life threatening injuries.” He was taken to the hospital in an ambulance called by the deputy, according to the crash report.

The teen told the GSP officer that he was “trying to get home to his residence after he and a friend had been driving their ATV’s,” the report said. The teen said that he did not remember much about the crash.

When interviewing the Crawford County deputy, he said the “ATV suddenly turned left into his patrol vehicle as he pulled alongside it,” according to the GSP report.

The report says that dash camera footage shows the ATV hitting the cruiser after not pulling over for the deputy.
