Country star Morgan Wallen breaks silence after Nashville arrest

Country music singer Morgan Wallen has broken his silence after being arrested for throwing a chair from a rooftop bar.

The incident occurred on April 8 at Chief’s, a six-story bar, restaurant and music venue in downtown Nashville, with the chair landing just less than a metre away from two police officers, according to the arrest affadavit.

The document also states that nearby witnesses “observed him pick up the chair and throw it over him, laughing afterward.”

He was arrested on three counts of felony reckless endangerment and one count of misdemeanour, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department confirmed in an April 8 post on X, formerly Twitter.

The 30-year-old addressed the arrest in a statement on April 19 (April 20 in Australia), sharing that he “didn’t feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks.

“I’ve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chief’s. I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility. I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe,” he said in a statement shared to X.

“There will be no change” to his touring plans, he added.

Wallen, who is known for his songs Last Night and Thought You Should Know, has had a number of previous career controversies.

In 2021 he was caught using a racial slur on camera, leading to his contract being suspended by his record label and radio stations refusing to play his music.

He later apologised for the incident in a video message to fans.

“The video you saw was me on hour 72 of 72 of a bender and that’s not something I’m proud of either,” he said on Instagram.

“I let so many people down who mean a lot to me and who have given so much to me and it’s just not fair,” he added.
