Chef Cloyce Martin Shouldn’t Return After Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 (He Isn’t The Best Chef The Show’s Had)
Chef Cloyce Martin has been making waves on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, but he shouldn’t return for the next season of the hit Bravo spin-off. The 22-year-old chef certainly has an impressive resume, but his overconfidence and lack of professionalism could spell trouble. Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 is off to a wild start, with First Mate Gary King kissing overly flirty Stew Danni Warren after a night out, and Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher feuding with Stews Danni and Diana Cruz. However, her squabbles with stews onboard can’t compare to her feud with Chef Cloyce.
Daisy could become a villain on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, but it’s not her fault. She confronted Gary in the season premiere regarding his lack of support during her breakup from former Chief Engineer Colin Macrae. She was also forced to become stricter with her stews because of their incompetence and laziness. After yelling at Gary for making out with Danni, she proceeded to give Chef Cloyce a talking to. However, Chef Cloyce deserved it and shouldn’t make it to the next season.
Chef Cloyce Doesn’t Listen To Daisy
He Won’t Take Constructive Criticism
Chef Cloyce and Daisy have been at odds since the season premiere, and their relationship could reach a boiling point. On multiple occasions, Chef Cloyce delayed meal service despite Daisy’s clear instructions about timing. This affected the smooth execution of service and frustrated Daisy and the guests. They expect punctuality during their luxury yacht experience. The 17-minute dessert delay was completely unacceptable, and Daisy made sure that Chef Cloyce was aware of her dissatisfaction.

Chef Cloyce would also dismiss guest preference sheets and dietary restrictions, which Daisy had to remind him of. Then, he was annoyed when steaks and lobster had to be cooked to order in the first charter. Chef Cloyce continued to resist collaboration with Daisy, brushing her off or rejecting her feedback, as seen in the most recent episode. If Chef Cloyce can’t learn to take advice from Daisy, who has way more yachting experience than him, then he shouldn’t come back for another season. Being able to work well with Daisy is key.
Chef Cloyce Pushes Back On Any Criticism From His Crew
He Gets Super Defensive
Chef Cloyce pushes back on any criticism he gets from the crew, making him unlikable and hard to work with. Despite receiving repeated complaints about his dishes, from poor timing to presentation, Chef Cloyce continues to dismiss feedback, blaming others rather than acknowledging his own shortcomings. He was really annoyed when Daisy tried to help him out, claiming she was “confused,” and doubling down on his belief in his own skills.
Chef Cloyce needs to keep his ego in check to become a better chef and colleague.
Captain Glenn Shephard also intervened, pointing out Chef Cloyce’s lack of preparation and urging him to elevate his culinary game for future charters. However, Chef Cloyce continued to ignore guidance, even in his confessionals, where he accused both Daisy and Captain Glenn of “ruining his day” rather than reflecting on his performance. This changed when he began to obsess over the preference sheets and experiment with squid ink ravioli. However, he seemed to do this out of spite.
Chef Cloyce’s issues extend beyond feedback; he also prioritized hanging out with the guests over his primary responsibilities in the galley. He might not make that mistake again, but Chef Cloyce is on thin ice. Captain Glenn isn’t going to tolerate his overconfidence for much longer.
Chef Cloyce Doesn’t Care About Guest Opinions
He Does What He Wants
Chef Cloyce not caring about the crew is one thing, but his attitude towards guests is another. His lack of regard for guest opinions isn’t going to cut it on Below Deck Sailing Yacht. Despite complaints about his meal presentations, such as a family-style setup as opposed to plated courses that disappointed one primary guest, Chef Cloyce maintained an arrogant attitude. He had the chance to change his ways, but he continued to serve the same charter guests family-style.

When Daisy offered constructive criticism to help him improve, he ignored her suggestions, instead praising his own skills and belittling her efforts. Even after Captain Glenn intervened to encourage better preparation and creativity, Chef Cloyce refused to take accountability for his actions. He should have learned his lesson after the cake incident, but his overconfidence and negativity continued. While he might be making an effort now, it could be too little, too late for Chef Cloyce on Below Deck Sailing Yacht.
