Channing Tatum Jokes About Daughter Watching Magic Mike
Channing Tatum has done many things in his movie career, but it’s probably fair to say that nothing has had quite as much of a cultural impact as Magic Mike.
The first Magic Mike film was released in 2012 and starred Channing as Mike Lane, a stripper trying to make ends meet in Florida.
The movie — which was partly based on Channing’s own experience as a stripper in Tampa at 18 years old — was a huge success, grossing over $167 million worldwide off of a $7 million budget. As a result, two sequels followed: Magic Mike XXL in 2015 and Magic Mike’s Last Dance in 2023.
But despite Magic Mike‘s mega success, Channing recently admitted that he dreads the day his 11-year-old daughter, Everly, is introduced to that era of his career.
Appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thursday, the 44-year-old opened up about his and Everly’s trip to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Los Angeles last August, admitting that he “was dancing like [he’d] never danced before.”
In light of Channing’s famed history as a dancer, the host didn’t take long to poke fun at his comment. “That’s a lot coming from you,” Seth responded.
At this point, Seth warned that it’s only a matter of time before Everly learns about Magic Mike. “It’s gonna happen, and it’s not gonna happen because you show her,” he said, prompting Channing to say, “It’s gonna be horrifying” when that day eventually comes.
Of course, Magic Mike isn’t the only dance film in Channing’s filmography — he and Everly’s mom famously met while shooting Step Up. However, Jenna revealed last year that their daughter was “completely uninterested” when she watched the 2006 hit movie for the first time.
