Celebrity Interviews: Most powerful celebrity television interviews of all time | In Pictures

Three months before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s royal exit, Meghan displayed a rare (at the time) moment of candour in an interview with ITV journalist Tom Bradby.

Holding back tears, Meghan opened up to Bradby – and, by extension, the public – for the first time about the negative press she battled during her pregnancy with Prince Archie.

”Any woman, especially when they’re pregnant, you’re really vulnerable, and so that was made really challenging,” Meghan confessed to Bradby in the interview, which was filmed in October 2019 in southern Africa.

“And then when you have a newborn, you know. And especially as a woman, it’s a lot.”

“You add this on top of just trying to be a new mum or trying to be a newlywed,” Meghan said of the scrutiny and criticism, holding back tears.

“I guess, also thank you for asking, because not many people have asked if I’m OK, but it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”

When Bradby later asked if the duchess was “not OK”, her answer was to the point: “Yes.”

It was the first time she had opened up about what was going on behind-the-scenes, though it wouldn’t be the last.

In addition to the interview with Winfrey, Harry and Meghan also released a six-part docuseries on Netflix, and Harry also released a memoir, Spare, detailing life as a royal.
