CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — The Indianapolis suburb best known for replacing traffic lights with roundabouts* wants you to take your own a turn as a transportation planner.
The City of Carmel is asking for opinions the community’s current transit options and future goals. Through a Transportation and Mobility survey, the city says it wants to learn how people “move around our city and help shape potential new transportation options.”
The work builds on an earlier survey showing most members of the community want better choices in public transportation.
Questions include:
- Do you usually have reliable access to transportation for your daily needs
- How often do you experience difficulty traveling to essential destinations
- Which local transportation services have you used within the past 6 months?
- How interested would you be in using public transit if it were widely available in and around Carmel?
- How important do you think it is for Carmel to offer public transit service, even if you don’t use it yourself?
City planners are not yet saying exactly how they’ll use the results, but they promise “your confidential feedback will directly impact future planning decisions.”
A WISH-TV staffer took the survey and completed it in less than three minutes. The city says it should take no more than five.

*Note the many with strong opinions about roundabouts: There are no questions in the survey about traffic circles!
