Brittany Hockley shares an update on her fertility journey and the heartbreaking moment she will ‘never forget’

Brittany Hockley has shared the details of her fertility journey.

On an episode of the Something to Talk About podcast, Hockley revealed that she and her boyfriend Benjamin Siegrist decided to freeze embryos last year and now, on their fourth attempt, have been successful.

She shared that although she is “stoked” to now have three viable frozen embryos, she’s still cautious.

“But we do know three doesn’t mean anything, either,” she said.

“Three could be one child. Three could be none. Three could be two. But it’s better than not having any.”

She also recalled a moment she’ll “never forget” telling the podcast the story of an unsuccessful bout of IVF a year ago, where she and Siegrist were left with three embryos.

Two of them were not viable, and the third was diagnosed with a rare chromosomal disorder, meaning it was not viable for implantation.

“I’ll never forget the moment when they said, ‘I’m sorry, you don’t have any,'” she shared.

“I’ll never forget it, because I was so shocked, because I was so convinced that science would be on my side, and then I walked away from that with nothing. It was a real, ‘Maybe this isn’t going to work out for me’ (moment).

“As a woman, you don’t ever think you’re going to be in a position like that; (you think) that stuff (only) happens to other people. It was really hard, because my partner wants kids. I want kids. And to realise that that choice might be taken from you is the big thing.”

Speaking on her own podcast Life Uncut, she told her friend and co-host Laura Byrne the reason behind why she waited to speak about her journey publicly.

When she first shared news of her struggles with fertility back in 2021, Hockley only spoke about her plans to freeze her eggs with no mention of embryos.

Through tears, she told Byrne, “I didn’t want to talk about it, because I was worried about the result. I didn’t want everyone to know that I was going through it and then have to talk about the fact that it didn’t work.

“I feel like that was the best decision for me because something did go wrong.”
