Bride’s Friend Tells Her She Can’t Play THIS Taylor Swift Song At Her Wedding – What Do U Think?!

Some Taylor Swift songs are off limits when it comes to weddings, according to a Swiftie! But if that means denying the bride what she wants? Hmm…

In a now-deleted recent Reddit post, a soon-to-be bridesmaid explained how she was “beyond ecstatic” about her friend’s wedding being Taylor-themed. She said they had a lot of fun putting this Swift-tastic celebration together — until it came to the music choices! This is where she decided to warn the bride about the use of a specific song in her ceremony — Lover:

“We’ve both had lots of fun — however we’re disagreeing on one thing. During the ceremony she wants to play the song Lover, which is one of her favorite songs, and I get that but I’m trying to tell her that it would be insensitive to play Lover since Taylor specifically added it to her denial playlist and it would be invalidating that.”

Lover! A SUPER popular wedding ballad since its release in 2019!

So, uh… what’s the problem??

Back ahead of the release of The Tortured Poets Department, the 34-year-old made playlists on Apple Music exploring the five stages of heartbreak. In the “denial” playlist, which she described as “getting so caught up in the idea of something that you have a hard time seeing the red flags, possibly resulting in moments of denial and maybe a little bit of delusion”. The OP says something being on the “denial” playlist makes it automatically a terrible wedding song, per Taylor herself! She argued her case so hard, they got into a “fight” over it:

“She keeps saying it’s her wedding and she can play whatever … We had a fight about this yesterday and we haven’t spoken much since but I love her and I don’t want to miss her wedding. Please share your thoughts ASAP.”

Oof. Definitely a bit of a sticky situation. Ultimately, this Reddit user probably just didn’t want to have her friend’s wedding be tainted with the not-so-sweet vibes of “denial” so we get her argument.

Obviously there’s the “death of the author” to consider. You know, the argument that a song or other piece of art means to a particular fan isn’t solely determined by what the creator says. It’s especially important in cases where the author changes their mind later! Like falling out of love with that particular person or, you know, getting way into upsetting political beliefs.

But at the end of the day, the most important thing? It’s not the OP’s wedding! And if the bride thinks Lover is the most romantic song, she gets it! Heck, if she wants to dance to Back That Azz Up, she gets to! It’s her day!

That’s our two cents anyway! What do U think about this, Perezcious readers? Sound OFF with your thoughts (below).
