Born Again, Eyes of Wakanda, Agatha, and more

Head of streaming, television, and animation at Marvel Studios, Brad Winderbaum guested on the second episode of The Official Marvel Podcast to update fans on what’s happening next with Marvel Television. In an interview with longtime Marvel podcaster Ellie Pyle, fans learned about numerous Marvel TV updates such as how Spider-Man Spider Society will be a teen-centric ensemble and the surprising similarities between X-Men ‘97 and Daredevil: Born Again.

“It feels like the completion of a trilogy,” said Winderbaum who kicked things off by talking about season 3 of What If…? “It takes us to places that you’d never expect. It goes beyond the first 2 seasons of its exploration of the multiverse and it pulls in very unexpected characters. It also has, what I think is, a very satisfying culmination for Uatu The Watcher.”

After this, Pyle asked about the highly anticipated project: Eyes of Wakanda, which, unlike other animated properties for Marvel, actually ties directly into the MCU:

This is a story about Wakandan history that’s produced by Ryan Coogler and directed by Todd Harris. It’s an awesome show, the action is insane, and the storytelling’s fantastic. It’s both about the history of Wakanda but also expands into the greater MCU at different time periods, so if you’re a fan of the movies, I think this show is going to be a real treat.”

Delving into live-action television reveals, Winderbaum shared two updates on Marvel’s biggest shows: Agatha All Along and Daredevil Born Again.

“Agatha is really fun but scary. And it gets quite dramatic. She’s an amazing antihero and that show lures you in with the fun of Halloween and before you know it you’re crying,” said Winderbaum clarifying that the series will be, much like Werewolf by Night, a Halloween horror tale. “It’s a Marvel brand of scary. It’s a Halloween show. There are deadly stakes in the series. It’s a fun ride but it’s a dangerous one.”

“Daredevil… is incredible. It’s similar in some ways to X-Men ‘97 because it’s reviving something that the fans love, but it is taking it in a new direction. The characters have matured. The universe is different as it was. Things have changed. Society has changed. Matt and Wilson have changed and their characters are going to collide in ways we have never seen before. Its no longer enough to try and murder each other, there’s a whole game of politics in play.”

Winderbaum has been a longstanding producer who has been around Marvel since the first Iron Man movie. Given that last week, the podcast featured updates by Kevin Feige on the Fantastic Four, it seems that Marvel is continuing this trend of revealing info on what’s happening at each division each week for The Official Marvel Podcast.

Atop of this, the second half of the episode focused purely on the history of Captains America in honor of Independence Day – so it seems like Marvel preserved some elements of its history podcast. Episode two was hosted by Ray Lowe and Nick Coreo, so there also may be a rotating host situation underfoot here. Will find out more next week.

The Official Marvel Podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and all major podcast platforms in the U.S.
