Blumhouse’s WOLF MAN Movie Replaces Ryan Gosling with Christopher Abbott — GeekTyrant

Blumhouse has been developing a new Wolf Man horror movie for Universal Pictures. The movie is being directed by Invisible Man filmmaker Leigh Whannell and Ryan Gosling was originally supposed to star in the film. Gosling has since left the project and the project just announced his replacement.

The Wolf Man movie will now star Christopher Abbott, who most recently appeared in the film Poor Things. He also appeared in projects such as Catch-22, Girls, Possessor, It Comes at Night, and The Crowded Room.

Plot details haven’t been revealed, but it’s a Wolf Man movie and the story is said to focus on “a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.”

The script was written by Whannell and Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, the latter duo previously wrote the comedic drama, Dumb Money. Gosling is still on board as an executive producer along with Jason Blum.

I love the original 1941 film, which was directed by George Waggner. The movie tells the story of Larry Talbot, played by Lon Chaney Jr., who returns to his ancestral home in Wales after the death of his brother. During a fateful encounter with a wolf-like creature, Larry is bitten and cursed with lycanthropy, turning into a werewolf when the full moon rises. As he struggles to control his deadly transformation, Larry becomes a menace to the local villagers.

Lon Chaney Jr.’s portrayal of the tormented Larry Talbot is considered on of the best performances in the history of classic horror cinema. I hope this new film will capture the spirit and atmospheric setting of the original film.

Universal Pictures has set the film for release on October 25, 2024.
