It’s showtime!

The first official look at the Beetlejuice sequel has just dropped, and it has us feeling all the ’80s nostalgia.

The highly anticipated sequel, titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, is set to hit theatres September 6 in Australia – 36 years after the original movie came out in 1988.

The teaser trailer, just over a minute long, was released by Warner Bros. on Friday, bringing back original cast members Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara and Michael Keaton.

The teaser is set to a spooky version of the track Day-O (The Banana Boat Song), which played in the original movie.

While the plot of the sequel, which is once again being directed by Tim Burton, is being kept under wraps, it will be set decades after the original.

The first look features a funeral scene, teasing the Deetz family will deal with a death, as well as scenes of the town and an attic.

The film welcomes back Hollywood icon Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz and Schitt’s Creek star Catherine O’Hara as her stepmother Delia.

Joining the Deetz family for the sequel is young talent Jenna Ortega, who already worked alongside director Tim Burton in the Netflix series Wednesday.

Ortega will join the star-studded cast as the next generation of the Deetz clan, playing Lydia’s daughter Astrid.

Speaking to Vanity Fair in February, Ortega revealed her new character is “weird, but in a different way and not in the way you’d assume.”

The Scream actress shared that the mother-daughter relationship between her and Ryder’s character in the film is “very important.”

Another familiar face in the sequel is, of course, the titular star Beetlejuice – or Betelgeuse – played by Hollywood great Michael Keaton.

Keaton’s ghoulish character makes a brief appearance back in his iconic black and white suit and green hair at the end of the teaser.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Burton said Keaton “went right back into it” for the sequel, calling his transformation back into the ghost as “sort of like demon possession.”

Additional newcomers reportedly joining the cast for the sequel are Spider-Man star Willem Dafoe and The Leftovers actor Justin Theroux.
