Bend police officers, firefighters and Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies came together for some friendly competition to help the community Monday.
The Battle of the Badges blood drive took place at Bend PD headquarters. Police officers, firefighters, sheriff’s office staff, and more came by to make a potentially life-saving blood donation.
“Law enforcement and fire personnel are typically the first people on scene at an incident where someone could be losing a critical amount of blood. This is really important to us. We really encourage anybody who’s able to donate blood, we want them to do that because you never know when you’re gonna be the person that might need a blood donation to survive,” Bend Police Communications Manager Sheila Miller said.
Nearly 20 members of the Bend Police Department donated blood. Eleven people donated from Bend Fire and Rescue and eight members of the Deschutes County Search and Rescue Team participated.
