Bass Road construction road closures pushed back another week, GDOT report says

They say that Bass Road from the intersection of Rivoli Drive to Forsyth Road is expected to remain closed for around 180 days, or six months.

MACON, Ga. — The closure dates for a construction project on Bass Road have been pushed back another week, according to a press release from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).

They say that Bass Road from the intersection of Rivoli Drive to Forsyth Road will now be closed starting Monday, Feb. 24, and is expected to remain closed for around 180 days, or six months.

Per the report, they are planning to demolish and reconstruct the bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad – meaning there will be no access to cross the bridge, and residents will be required to enter on the side of the closure where they live.

GDOT also says the detour will direct traffic onto Rivoli Drive and Forsyth road in order to avoid the Bass Road closure.

According to prior 13WMAZ reporting, the GDOT project aims to replace the existing 26-foot wide bridge with a new 43-foot wide structure. The improved bridge will be higher to meet minimum clearance requirements over the railroad, necessitating approximately 880 feet of roadway approach on either side. The total project length is about 2,000 feet (0.38 miles).
