Barry Keoghan Hits Back At “Deadbeat Dad” Claims

Toward the end of last year, Irish actor Barry Keoghan exploded into the mainstream in spectacular fashion thanks to his breakout role in the movie Saltburn.

Barry’s fame only increased when he started dating pop star Sabrina Carpenter earlier this year, and by the summer, the star had unlocked the dark side of celebrity when he found himself being targeted on social media in an onslaught of negative tweets and TikToks.

In June of this year, Alyson inadvertently created an online frenzy when she was caught liking an Instagram comment on a photo of her and Brando that read: “More appreciation for mothers raising their kids practically by themselves. My mom was my hero!!! You’re already his hero too.”

“I’ll just say this — I didn’t have a father figure growing up, so even my relationship with my son isn’t quite of the normal father-son relationship,” Barry said in the interview. “Because I don’t have that figure to draw experience from and to base it on.”

Speaking to the host, Barry admitted that this misconception about him makes him “furious,” and he later called out the “absolutely disgusting” things that are said about his appearance online, too.

“And because I reined that in, people draw a narrative and go: ‘Absent father, shit, deadbeat dad,’ and more disgusting things I wouldn’t even repeat,” Barry went on. “Just the audacity of some people, man. It sickens me, makes me furious.”

“Some of the comments on my appearance are completely different and absolutely disgusting,” he shared. “It’s sad to kind of pick someone’s appearance apart. Especially on this TikTok as well, people can sit there and make videos and be like: ‘I don’t like his face,’ ‘He looks weird,’ or ‘He looks evil’ and just pick you apart.”
