Sean Lowe is recovering after being attacked by his rescue dog.
On Monday, the Bachelor season 17 alum took to Instagram alongside his wife Catherine Giudici to open up about a “pretty traumatic” disaster their family went through over the weekend. He explained that he and some buddies were barbecuing on Thursday when smoke from the grill made its way inside his house and set off the fire alarm. He went inside to try and wave the smoke away from the alarms with a towel, which seemingly triggered his rescue boxer Moose. He said the animal nipped his finger “really aggressively,” which is out of the norm for him… But things only got worse:
“I kind of gave him a, ‘No, Moose,’ and again, the siren’s just blaring. And then [Moose] goes and bites on my feet … He was biting my feet so hard he actually put holes in my shoes and it was hurting my feet.”
Wow, that’s really frightening… Moose must have been in a lot of distress from the sirens.

Sean said he firmly told the dog “No,” which prompted him to bare his teeth and enter “attack” mode:
“I don’t mean bite and run off like a lot of dogs do when they’re scared or defensive. I mean [he] attacks me. And I feel him kind of ripping into the flesh of my arm, and at this point, I am doing everything I possibly can just to fend this dog off. … I know I’m bleeding badly. And my friends don’t know what’s going on.”
Holy s**t…
He was eventually able to corral the dog outside, but not for long. Moose unfortunately made his way back into the home and attacked Sean a second time. Again, the reality TV alum managed to get Moose back into the backyard, and that’s when he noticed a SUPER deep cut on his arm — a cut so deep he “saw blood squirting probably a couple feet.”
OMFG. Luckily, his friends acted quickly:
“I thank god that my friends were there because they were able to rush me to the ER.”
He had to get stitches, but at least it was all over, right? Wrong.
The next morning, Sean was forced to figure out a solution as he no longer felt comfortable having the dog around his family… But that’s when terror struck again. Sean explained his parents came to pick up his kids, and that’s when Moose managed to escape from the backyard and attack him for a THIRD time:
“Just again, feeling ripping into my flesh. And again, I’m not trying to exaggerate, I certainly don’t want to come across as, like, a victim or anything like that. I’m just telling you how it happened. I’m able to wrestle him to the ground. And this dog is so strong, he’s so explosive, but I’m able to wrestle him to the ground. I’ve got a hold of his collar, but I know that he’s ripped my arm open, and I just know like, I’m fighting for my life here like, I feel like if this dog gets up, he is going to kill me.”
That’s TERRIFYING.
Sean said he was able to pin Moose down and had to lay on him for 10 minutes until cops arrived. He then had to return to the ER to get even more stitches. But he doesn’t blame the pooch. He said Moose “experienced a lot of trauma” before he adopted him, and he’s “confused” and “heartbroken” over the whole situation:
“Going through a dog attack is pretty darn traumatic. Having to re-live it less than 12 hours later, seeing that dog running straight at you, is a feeling I don’t think I ever want to experience again.”
So, so scary.
He reflected:
“Overall, I’m super grateful it was me and it was not my kids or my wife. And that I made it out relatively unscathed. I’ll have scarred arms for the rest of my life but I can live with that. From a psychological perspective, I think I’ll be okay.”
The 41–year-old concluded the video:
“We’re torn up about it. And we miss our dog, as crazy as it sounds.”
What a traumatic situation. You can watch Sean’s lengthy full video (below):
Sadly, Sean and his family had just adopted Moose in January.
What a heartbreaking situation. Our hearts are with the Lowes as Sean heals.
