This post contains a preview for Nightwing #124A new preview for DC’s Nightwing provides another impressive piece of proof that Dick Grayson is the absolute goat of the DC Universe. It’s no secret that recent years have elevated Nightwing to an A-tier DC hero status on par with the likes of Superman, Wonder Woman, and even his mentor and adoptive father, Batman. However, DC is still finding some pretty cool ways in this new Nightwing era to show how Dick Grayson is just a cut above with his heroism.
In the new preview for Nightwing #124 by Dan Watters and Dexter Soy, Dick Grayson continues to stand between Blüdhaven’s aggressive police force armed with high-tech weaponry by a company called Spheric Solutions, and the city’s gangs who’ve been targeted and set up…by Spheric. To that end, Nightwing has been doing his best to support criminals he’d normally fight and put in custody, having become victims whose lives are in great danger. This includes the gang known as the Flyboiz who were tricked by Spheric and are now facing imminent death from aggressive mutations:
Without hesitation, Grayson is shown in this preview not only maintaining the fragile peace between Blüdhaven’s various gangs until Nightwing can deal with Spheric and their connection to the Cirque du Sin, but also agreeing to give as many blood transfusions to as many of the mutated Flyboiz as he can to save their lives.
Nightwing Is Prepared To Give His Own Blood To Blüdhaven’s Criminals
Saving Their Lives While Risking His Own
As was confirmed in the preview issue, Spheric gave the Flyboiz an underground lab to work out of away from the eyes of the police as a chance to undo the genetic splicing they’d done to themselves. However, they were unaware that the lab also contained multiple toxic corpses, having been locked away since the attack on Blüdhaven by the villain known as Chemo in 2006. As such, the Flyboiz’s inhalation of the bodies resulted in their already modified cells being aggressively mutated, turning them into hulking monsters if not killing them outright.

With Spheric being the true threat due to their manipulation of both sides to create a manufactured war in Blüdhaven, Nightwing is naturally compelled to answer the various gangs’ calls for help. To that end, Nightwing offering up multiple pints of his own blood to stabilize the mutations is very admirable, being a universal donor (because of course he is) and the simple fact that the hospitals wouldn’t be able to work on the Flyboiz’s non-human bodies, even if Dick could them care in time before they died.
Nighting Has Always Gone Above and Beyond As One of DC’s Greatest Heroes
Giving so much blood is bound to be incredibly risky, and it’s quite impressive that Nightwing’s willing to give so much to those who’d typically try to kill him. It’s certainly a prime example of Nightwing going above and beyond to do the right thing and help others in need no matter the cost, which has certainly become a trend in recent years.
The biggest and best example is during the recently concluded Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo run, when Nightwing used the billions of dollars he inherited from the late Alfred Pennyworth to improve Blüdhaven with various programs and institutions. He effectively became a hero for his city regardless of whether he was wearing his mask or not. Now, it’s going to be very exciting to see just how far Dick Grayson is willing to go with this new arc in the DC Universe.
Nightwing #124 is on sale March 19th from DC Comics.
