Ariana Madix Shares the Real Reason She Didn’t Defend Scheana

Katie Maloney is shading Scheana Shay over what she claims is a “pattern” of her Vanderpump Rules castmate hanging out with Tom Sandoval and then complaining about the backlash she receives.

As the cast looked back on the criticism Scheana, 38, got after being spotted in a photo with Sandoval, 41, amid their cast trip to Lake Tahoe, Scheana spoke of the harsh words she received as Katie, 37, made it clear she had no sympathy and Lala Kent, 33, explained why she felt it was important for Ariana Madix, 38, to stand up for their co-star.

“‘Flip flopper.’ ‘Disloyal.’ ‘Bad friend.’ ‘Not a girl’s girl.’ ‘[Stassi Schroeder] was right about you,’ etc., etc,” Scheana revealed on the March 12 episode of the Pump Rules: After Show of the things people said about her after she posed with Sandoval. “I’m just taking a photo with some girl we met on the street. It’s her birthday. She wanted everyone in it, we all stand and I’m like, ‘Sh*t. He’s there.’”

“And if Ariana would’ve been there and you hadn’t, Ariana would’ve been in that photo with Tom Sandoval because we’re kind to our fans,” Kristen Doute, 41, noted.

Although Brittany Cartwright, 35, wasn’t present at the time, she wondered if Ariana was upset by the pic.

“No, but she didn’t defend her,” Lala replied.

According to Ariana, it never occurred to her to intervene.

“I’ve never been like, ‘Katie got a mean comment on her Instagram so I’m gonna go on my Instagram and make a big deal about it,’” she explained. “I just feel like it’s a backfire. I’m of the idea that if you ignore it, it goes away. But then when Lala brought that up and it became clear that it was something that was very important to her, then I did post something because I was like, ‘I don’t want her to think that I’m purposefully not posting something as some sort of attack.’”

“You were bullied into doing it,” Katie corrected, noting that Scheana was simply dealing with the “consequences of [her] actions.”

“No one has to jump to your defense because you continually act like a buffoon,” she stated. “If I’m next to him, [I lean away]. You’ve gotta think about that. If you don’t want to be called out, from that point on, life is beautiful, hanging out with him, you’re in his hotel, hanging out with him. It’s become a pattern. And you’re like, ‘Everyone is being so mean to me because I keep hanging out with him and I don’t know why. I just keep accidentally, purposefully hanging out with him on my own accord.’”

While Katie did not feel Ariana should have come to Scheana’s defense amid the controversy, Lala expected her to speak out on Scheana’s behalf.

“I’ve been with her. She knows everything that’s being talked about at all times in the comments section. So it’s like, here your friend is being dragged and people are dragging her on her behalf. You need to say something,” Lala shared. “Scheana caught a restraining order on your behalf when she found out and you can’t do a f*cking little post that says ’Schena’s a good friend back off?’ It was mind-blowing to me.”

Even though Ariana eventually spoke out for Scheana, Scheana suggested she would’ve preferred if she had done so without the prompting of Lala.

“It would’ve meant a little more if it was her idea, but the fact that she still did it, she didn’t have to do it, I appreciated that but I know it was because Lala really put it in perspective that she should,” Scheana explained.

“Sometimes it takes an outsider to shed perspective for you to do something,” Lala agreed. “Ariana didn’t have to. I could’ve told her how I felt and she could’ve gone about her merry way. She didn’t. She took it. She proceeded it and then she made the decision to defend Scheana.”

Vanderpump Rules season 11 airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
